Mrs Samera Hussain had been sent several warning letters by the Council and the local HSE but she failed to respond and they were unable to locate her, a local paper reports.
In April, the HSE served her an improvement notice ordering her to arrange a gas safety check within 26 days, but this was ignored too. The property four gas fires and a gas boiler.
A prosecution was therefore brought at which Mrs Hussain pleaded guilty to failing to arrange an annual gas safety check and failing to comply with an improvement notice. She was fined £260 and ordered to pay costs of £207.
HSE Inspector Richard Clarke said:
“We gave her several chances to organise an inspection, but she ignored all of these. As a result, we had no choice but to take legal action against her.”
The fine may not be a large one, but Mr Hussein now has a criminal record. Which will make it very difficult for her in future if she ever needs to get a license for renting HMO or other property.
